What is a Patient Care Technician and what do they do?
The Patient Care Technician program is a combination of basic knowledge with applied skills taught and mastered in the classroom and the laboratory. In this multi-skilled program, student are cross-trained to perform any number of clinical skills from performing basic patient care skills to performing electrocardiograms as an EKG technician, collecting laboratory specimens as a Phlebotomist or assisting a patient to walk for the first time, as a physical therapy aide.
The Patient Care Technician can expect to find employment opportunities in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, specialty and urgent are centers, long-term and skilled nursing facilities, and staffing agencies. In addition to being qualified to work as a Patient Care Technician, Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aide, graduates of this program are also qualified to work as a Phelobotomist and EKG Technician.
Applicants must meet the following general requirement:

Be at least 18 years of age at the time of graduation.

Have signed permission from a parent or guardian if less than 18 years oil at the time of admission.

Have a personal interview with the admissions representative or a school official.

Submit a signed enrollment agreement and make payment arrangements for the requried tuition/fees.

Have a valid high school diploma or GED or equivalent.

Obtain or sign a declintion for the Hepatitia B vaccine prior to admission.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE
To train students to apply some skills safely and effectively function as integral members of the health care team. The student will be awarded a diploma and will be able to choose from different inpatient or outpatient facilities for employment
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The students will be trained in the patient care technician program for employment in the allied healthcare professions. The training will be in various clinical, clerical, and administrative procedures in either the medical or home health environment. HIV/AIDS and CPR courses are completed in PCT 001 and PCT 005 respectively. Students will receive a certificate verifying these requirements have been met when the course is completed.
